Our sad, sad news

Some of you already know this, but we have had some horrible, terrible, unimaginably painful news regarding my daughter's husband. Desiree' and Russell have lived together has husband and wife for quite some time now and had planned a big wedding celebration for April 19, 2009. Although they were already common law married in the eyes of the law, Russell wanted Des to have her fairytale wedding day - the big dress, the crowd, the dancing and all the trimmings. Sadly, on Sunday, April 5th, two weeks to the day before they were to have their big moment, Russell was killed in car accident in east Texas. In two days, my daughter will bury the man she had planned to spend the rest of her life with. Desiree' has proven herself to be way tougher than anyone I've ever known - I don't know how she's getting up every day and facing life but she is. She's planned Russell's funeral with every bit as much love and attention as she spent planning their wedding. Randey and I are watching her heart break right before our very eyes and all we can do is marvel at the love she carries for Russell and how determined she is to take care of him now.
Please pray for my daughter and her beloved Russell. I know she's going to need all the warmth and love and prayers that she can get as she moves forward.

  32. These are the times we question- but it's not up to us. all we can do is keep one another strong. Seems to me your family is going through a lot at present, AuntSandi ill and others..
It almost seems too much, but that is what gives us our character, and we probably will be able to help someone down the road someday. I ache for all of you and pray that love comes your daughters'way again.I know God will send her peace and strength through all of this..

  39. I'm new to your blog. I am sooooo sorry for this great loss. They are such a beautiful couple. I recently lost my hubby, unexpectedly, so I do know the pain of losing your soul mate. Just be there for your daughter as she walks through this. It won't be easy, but there will come a day when the pain of the hole left in her soul will begin to mend just a little. ♥

  52. Oh Kari..that seems way too much for such a young lady to have to deal with. I can barely look that idea in the eyes with my husbands disease...and I am in my 40's. I just cannot imagine dealing with it at her age. I know you are proud of her.

  55. Kari, I knew from what you had said that this year had been hard for your family. I had been out of touch with you during this time (I am so sorry - I feel a certain amount of shame realizing that as you were hurting I wasn't here for you). I was taking some time today to read through your archives and try to get caught up a bit. There's no way I can read it all but I just wanted you to know that I was here, looking to see what God has brought you through.

I am so sorry for your loss of Russell and I pray that Desiree' is coping. I imagine she is still struggling but I am thankful she has her family to offer support.
