The Democratic Party is supposed to be the party of the "common" man", right?

And the Republican party is supposed to be for all those old, rich, white guys. Or so the legend goes. But if all that is true, then I have a question...John McCain has quite a few "every day people" standing up for him. I mean, there's Tito the Builder:

There's Joe the Plumber:

There's Joe the Veteran:

And let's not forget the most visible of us "common people", Sarah Palin:

So where are Obama's common "folks" (as he so charmingly calls us)? Where are they at? I see lots of politicians endorsing this "Agent of Change". Kind of makes me wonder what kind of "change" Obama is selling them on because surely they're not all volunteering to get the heck out of DC so that real change can happen if only we'll elect The One, are they? I see a lot of Hollywood "folks" endorsing Obama. Barbra Streisand, Matt Damon (Lord how I weep for your attitude about Palin, Matt!), Jessica Alba, Tom Hanks, Ron Howard and oh yeah, Oprah Winfrey among many, many others. Not sure if I see the benefit of having people who lie for a living endorse you, but politicians do seem to like that, don't they? I see lots of Obama campaign workers who support him. And they're all trained like good little robots. Doesn't matter what question is asked of them, they come back with the same tired old lines, "We don't want 4 more years of failed Bush policies" or "Senator Obama has been very clear that he is going to cut taxes for 95% of Americans". They never seem to mention that McCain isn't Bush and, in fact, McCain has differed from Bush in several very meaningful and public ways. Sure, he voted for lots of stuff that Bush wanted. Maybe that's because Bush was actually right about some things. I know the Left likes to paint Bush as being damn near as inept a president as Jimmy Carter was, but let's be serious...Carter set such a high bar in the field of ineptitude that it's pretty much impossible for anyone to even come close. They also fail to mention that of those 95% that Obama is going to cut taxes for, at least 40% of them don't even pay taxes to begin with. Hard to "cut" their taxes when they don't pay any, eh? But pointing that out is seen as quibbling and therefore, too far beneath response, so the Obama-bots just keep repeating their lines over and over and over without so much as acknowledging the issues.
I also see a lot of ACORN workers endorsing Obama. Only problem with that, of course, is that ACORN is supposed to be non-partisan and by claiming to be non-partisan, have managed to obtain beau coup bucks from our Federal Government in the form of our tax dollars. Not cool. So again...normal, every day, common Americans like Tito and Joe and Joe and Sarah put their butts on the line in order to endorse John McCain for president and Obama's big endorsements come from fellow politicians, pretenders, paid campaign workers and ACORN.
So tell me again.......how is it that the Democratic party is geared towards "the common man" and the Republicans are only good for rich, old, white guys?

  1. I do not wish to enter this debate. I just want to point out that the party will use every trick in the book to keep power by trouting out mr adverage person.I became an independant party member long ago due to my distrust of both the Repbicans and The Democrates. they are both hypocrates as far as I am concern. they both say we are going to make things bett and Do Not.Especially the current man in the White House. He had a balanced budget,a surplus of money and now the counrty is in bigger debt that it ever was.

  2. "the Democratic party is geared towards "the common man" and the Republicans are only good for rich, old, white guys"

-chuckle- Well that old ACORN... Ooops, pardon me... Should have said that old chestnut went out a long time ago. But a lot of people just don't seem to notice. Or want to notice. Take your pick.

I could go on and on, but... I doubt I'd change any 'random' followers of "The One," who happen to mosey on by here. -grin-

But how about this? "The One's" advisers have drawn up plans to dampen expectations. So that immediately after the election, there's not a vast mood swing from exhilaration and euphoria to despair.

    Ooooops!!!! >,-)

  3. From where I sit, you've got it just right, though It's unlikely that opinion can be swayed. My aunt has already voted for Senator Obama and is old enough to know better. I only hope she'll never have to experience the despair that would come from recognizing that she had made a big mistake. This election is too close to call or so we're told. My prayer is that it isn't that "close" and that McCain will win clearly and handily. We know exactly where we stand with him. The other candidate has too many questions swirling about him and too many unsavory friends. Oh, love how Mike didn't enter the debate. :D

  4. Hi Kari,

I've been reading and keeping up with your posts. As always they are well thought out and informative and so true. I am waiting to see just how this all plays out on Tuesday. I find it hard to believe that this race is over as the liberal news media keeps telling us.

  5. Gosh I wish I had time to do more than read your blog--that I could comment on each & every post.

I agree with you and thank you for all the research, time and effort you have devoted to this election--you've helped me with many ponderings my little mind has encountered.

Now--all we can do is hope, pray, rub the rabbit's foot, not walk under ladders, and whatever else it takes to see this to a positive end.

Which makes me wonder---what the heck will the news persona do with all their time??????

  6. I love your banner heading. It is so true. This is a scary time we live in and I hope we survive this election and the next four years. Actually, more than four, but it's the next four that are crucial to me right now.

  9. Hi Kari, Nice bit of writing today. Too bad many "Democrates (sic)" won't get it. I like that you pointed up that 40% of the 95% don't pay any taxes so only 65% will get promised tax cuts. Neither party has a workable plan yet that will work with the tax cuts proposed. Mike, there is no Independent Party, sorry. Pappy

  10. Another great post! In addition to all of the other characterizations, I guess I am now "selfish" too per Mr. O.

  11. "I see lots of Obama campaign workers who support him (Obama)."
Really, why would most people campaign for a candidate they DON'T support?
Also, calling the Democrats "Liberals" isn't quite fair. Not all Dems are liberal, just as all Republicans are not conservatives.

  13. We (as in my paternal family) have been Republicans since any of us can vote. I learned the other day that my sister is voting democratic. She should expect a visit from our late great Grandfather, arriving at her bedside no later than Monday night. No, really...she should. The thing that bothers me the most is this is so mindful of Hitler's tactics, it scares me.
    love ya, keep it up!

  14. I think the Republican party is able to exist for two reasons. (1) The world is complicated, so they are able to make up complete nonsense and convince people that their nonsense is true... Like, it's not fair to tax rich people at a higher rate... since they're only rich because they work harder, so you should work harder too, for less money... and no benefits... or... our entire economy collapsed because Carter and Clinton gave home loans to those bad minorities. We had the greatest industrialized country the world has ever seen, and we shipped the entire thing over to China... but that has nothing to do with the collapse. We basically canceled all laws governing wall street, gave them unlimited free money, and told them to run hog-wild, but that has nothing to do with the collapse either... its the blacks and Mexicans??? The other reason for the GOP's existence is (2)It allows the Republicans to rob the middle class blind, while they distract them with wishy-washy feelings based nonsense. Don't worry about the fact that we shipped your job to India... some dude you've never met, and never will meet, 7 states away, hates America!

  15. Now how do these Dems figure that sending jobs overseas is the fault of the Republicans? I am willing to concede that not many of the politicians we have elected lately have done us any favors, but I believe the Democrats (exceptions are possible) are responsible for most of the downturn in confidence in our lawmakers. They are now at around 14% approval rating. Considerably less than President Bush. Here is a little lesson in civics for you haughty Dems.

    CIVICS 101 3rd GRADE

    'Promise Them Ice Cream '

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third
grade in 2008. The presidential election was heating up and some of the
children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and
    the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.
We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.
We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were
good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was
    concise. She said, "If you
will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down. The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How
did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents
buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know. The class really
didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, and fifty
percent of America reacts like nine year olds. They want ice cream.

The other fifty percent know they're going to have to feed the cow. Pappy
