Mixed Messages

I've discovered that the world is full of mixed messages. I'm even sending some myself. Like this: Happy Easter! Or is that Happy St. Paddy's Day?! I can't seem to get it straight! These two holidays aren't supposed to be so close together. It's causing me great angst. What if I get confused and find myself digging up the Easter lilies in search of Shamrocks? Or worse (much, much worse!) drinking green beer while coloring eggs. Can you imagine how that would turn out? Well....actually, probably pretty cool, come to think of it. I mean geez! What can go wrong with green beer involved (besides the local pastor finding me hip deep in the flower bed with Easter lilies strewn all around, full to the gills with the green brew and shouting "How come no one's ever after my lucky charms!)?? Yeeeeaaaahhhhh. Never mind. But you see what I mean, right? It's always dangerous to send those mixed messages. Even the local stores are starting to do it. Check this out:

Yo, Ross! If you think it's such a great idea for us to "dress less", why do you sell so many freakin' clothes? Me thinks Ross should either invest in some more light bulbs or go all out and open a nudist colony with this sort of message being sent! (I'm voting for the light bulbs, myself).

Here's one message that is not mixed at all, however. I want to give a shout out to Emily, who is Jennifer's daughter. She sent me the sweetest little message the other day and I want her to know how much I appreciate it! What a sweetie. Jennifer's told me a little bit about her and all I can say is, it's probably best that we live so far apart. I get the feeling Miss Emily is my kind of kid which means I would probably be a horrible influence over her. I have a truly shameful habit of teaching kids the fine art of sarcasm and mischief. I know, I know. It's wrong. Funny. But wrong. I'm kidding, Jennifer! No way would I try to corrupt your sweet daughter (wink, wink Emily). Oh wow. I can't seem to help myself. I just sent a mixed message without even meaning to! Seriously, though...thanks for the message, Emily! I loved receiving it!!

Now I'm off to see what other mixed messages are awaiting me. I'm headed to the mall this afternoon with my husband, my boys and one of my boys' girlfriend. Ah, the mall. Now that's a place that just screams "mixed messages". Like all those mannequins, posed in bizarre ways, sporting cute little clothes that somehow manage to convey to even the biggest of us women that we, too, could look simply smashing in that hip, streamlined outfit. (That's usually not just a mixed message, it's a downright lie!). But I'm in the mood to be lied to so off I go! Wish me luck!

  1. Around here there has been a big to do about St. Patty and Easter being so close - like the Catholic church wants to change the date of the green holiday to another time! I love Easter, but my Irish part wants to attend that parade on Monday!

  2. Oh Kari! You have made a young girl's day! I have to share this with you.

Em was at her best friend's house spending the night when she left that message. Some kids go to chat rooms. Some kids look for adult content. My kid goes to Kari! LOL! I had no idea she had left you an encouraging message until I read your post. JOY JOY JOY! What a wonderful find!

I am proud of all of my kids. But of the three, Emily is the one that has the most interest in OTHERS. She loves to know about people and she is interested in Blogland and the people I have encountered. She has loved you since the pointer thingy conversation and was glad that you started blogging again. Thanks for taking the time to remark on her message. It speaks volumes on the kind of gal that you are!

    Love You Kari!!!

  4. Hi Kari,

Love the bunny and the St. Patty's Day decoration. The holidays are so close this year, you have to decorate for both at the same time. Hope you had fun at the mall.

  5. I had the same feeling when I was standing in the Halloween aisle at Target and had Christmas right next to it.
I tried on bathing suits at Ross once... I think that is what the sign means.

  8. If it weren't snowing on Palm Sunday(!), I'd be off to find myself a St. Patty's shake at the nearest McDonald's. How's that for the ultimate in mixed messages? LOL!

  13. You know I have been a slacker this year. I haven't done the first bit of decorating for Easter. I haven't even finished doing Maddy's basket yet. Shame on me. I have been reorganizing the house like crazy. Nick told me that I was welcome to do his comics and sadly I have considered it. Oh I wanted to thank you for the box we got for the girls. The stuff was very cute. I love the quilt and story book. I know Kara will enjoy them. It won't be too long now. Hopefully we will have the crib up by next week. I hope you had a nice trip to the mall.

  17. KARI! It's so good to see you back to your usual, wonderful, feisty self! Great idea to make a little book about you, and such great insights. Does it work for couples? (See my post today, cuz I had a mouthful to say bout my hubby.) Maybe all I have to do is make a book.
I love that you got snow. I have been wishing for snow here too. Not sure what the chances of that are in calif. ha.
Hope you can find time to stop by soon.
    Love!

  27. Wow...it seems f-o-r-e-v-e-r since I've been by for a visit. I've had fun "catching up" on your posts I've missed while away on my trip. I sure enjoyed your response to Mr. Anonymous. You go girl!

We had a wonderful, but busy time but I barely had time to do a post on my blog, so I didn't get to visit anyone. I've got so much "catching up" to do, but I'll do my best.

    Hugs!
