I Actually DO Have Blogging Limits! :o

Brace yourselves, people. I think I've actually found a subject that I'm not willing to blog about. Shocking, isn't it? This "thing" that's been on my mind has kept me from blogging. Can't seem to work my head around it long enough to focus on anything else. To be honest, I still don't feel like blogging, but thought maybe I should post something just to keep in practice. So here it is, in all its mundane glory...a post about things. Normal, everyday, only mildly (and that's being generous) interesting things.

See the way the wind blows here at our house? We had some fun weather in Texas last week. Nice warm temperatures, accompanied by winds strong enough to blow power lines down (as well as the garden clock we keep out back). Due to the dry conditions, some of those downed power lines caused a fire or two to kick up around Ft. Worth. Which begs the question...Exactly why do we not bury our power lines these days? Just seems like it'd be better all around.
Here's our resin leprechaun hat, ready to be filled with candy and set out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Check out my $6 painting I got at Kirkland's. Not exactly fine art, but I love it anyway. I can't say that I'm crazy about the frame. I think I'll paint it one of these days. Maybe black. Or maybe not. I've got it hanging in the living room right now. I figure I'll look at it for awhile and then decide what color and finish to go with.
My little Jim Shore figurine. "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide". (Something every parent should tell their children.)
This picture is for Scott and Jackie. Don't know if they've ever seen them before, but this is what a Blue Bonnet looks like when it starts to come up. Not being a native of Texas, I didn't know what this was when I first saw it a couple of years ago. I thought the leaves were kind of pretty, though, so I didn't pull it up. Then our neighbor, "B", came over and, as we were discussing flower beds and I pointed it out to him, he informed me that we had ourselves a Blue Bonnet plant. Cool, huh? Didn't even plant that first one, it just came up wild. Later on, we found some at Lowe's being sold as annuals and bought a six pack for the front of the house. Last year, those Blue Bonnets took off. Beautiful blooms that just kept going and going. It was awesome. I hope they do as well this year. I harvested some of the seeds and planted them out back a few months ago. I noticed this weekend that some of them were starting to come up. "B" and his wife are planning to plant a bunch of them in their backyard, along the fence line. It should be beyond gorgeous when they bloom. I'll probably be hospitalized shortly afterwards, though. I figure I'll probably fall off the fence while trying to balance long enough to take a few pictures. Maybe I'll just ask "B" to take them for me...yeah, that'd probably work out better, for me and the camera.

  1. Hey Girl! What's up? You're not visiting much anymore and you're not posting as often. I just want you to know that I've noticed. I was glad to see a post today though.

    Good to hear from you.

  4. Kari, you can blog about tomato soup cans and that'll be just great. I have never seen a bluebelle or a blue bonnet for real, but it Bluebelle is the nickname I've given a dear friend who just so happens to live in Austin, Texas. Wonder if they'd grow in my corner of the world...

Your garden clock is very nice and a wonderful feature for your outdoor space. Too bad the winds blew it over. Those boys of yours can set it right I hope! (I agree about electrical wires...so much more attractive landscape when they're underground, too.)

  6. Too dang funny...hubbin and I just had that SAME conversation about electrical lines the other day...I also hate the way the electric company comes in and TRIMS the booger out of some normally gorgegous trees...they just really prune them till they almost split in two...I can NOT understand WHY they don't (other than NOW it would be too expensive and you know who would have to pay for it)bury the lines!

Oh...and I have been noticing you cutting back on your blogging...didn't want to hound you too much...b/c I haven't been great about it either...but you are VERY missed when you're away!

We had the same winds...it blew things all over my back porch...chairs...a rustic table...a very large church birdhouse...and a couple of pots...YES...pots...w/dirt in them...now that was some strong TEXAS winds. Either that or we have gremlins moving things around...which in could be the case around here!!

    Blessings...
    Teresa

P.S. check out my site for a free give-a-way at Dawn's from thefeatherednest...you'll love it!!

  14. It's good to hear from you Kari. One of these days I'll write about the big wind storm I lived through in Texas.

I love those Blue Bonnets and the Paint Brushes ain't too shabby either. You do know don't you that I am half Texan!? My Daddy was a native of the great state of Texas.

    Enjoyed seeing you post!

  15. Hi, Kari! Haven't been by to see you in awhile. Love your pic from Kirklands. I see you are in a blog slump. I was afraid I'd run out of things to blog about too, but so far it hasn't happened. My mind goes ninety MPH all the time!

    xo,

PS Hope those blue bonnets take off for ya!

  16. I'm so glad to see that you finally posted. I've been wondering where you've been, how you are doing and if everything was ok. You're gonna have to tell us what's up. We all love ya! I'd read whatever you wrote about, even if the topic was about dirt. LOL
I agree about the power lines. Why on earth don't the put those crazy things in the ground, I just don't get it.
I had to go chase down my trashcans during that wind storm. I was scared to death from it. I had to chase down a few other things as well. I don't like this crazy weather we've had lately. With me being down in the Houton/Beaumont area, it has me worried as to what our summer/fall hurricane season is going to be like. EEEKKK!! Can I come stay with you the next time I have to evacuate? I'll bring my scrappin' and card making stuff. hehe ;)

You take care! I've missed your posts.

  19. Well well well. Look what the cat dragged in. Do you know it has been 7 days since your last post, missy? And here I am worried to death about you, pacing and walking the floor. Just what do you have to say for yourself and don't blame it on your friends....OOPS sorry, just practicing for raising teenagers. What do you think? Heavy enough on the guilt? Add tears or scream? Any sarcastic phrases I should insert?
Seriously though Kari. Mundane is fine, life has the remarkable and then there is just comfort. I hope you have a great weekend and I'm glad to know you haven't given up on us completely. If you need a friend, who is basically a complete stanger, to bounce the ideas in your head off of, email me. See ya! Jennifer

  20. Man, the weather has been horrid everywhere hasn't it? (Well, except for when I was in Florida! LOL! It was DIVINE!)

I LOVE Kirkland's! I was so bummed when they closed ours! They always had really cool stuff! That is where we bought our huge clock and the mirror above our fireplace.

I am SO ready to see some pretty flowers coming up! I wish I had planted some irises last year. Every year I say that I am going to and I always forget.

Don't you love when a plant that is supposed to me an "annual" keeps coming back every year?

  30. Kari, I can say from experience that life has major ups and downs. Talking (writing) about them helps them pass more quickly. It does not depress me to hear about others issues, because I might be able to offer some insightful words! I know you have to make this decision for yourself, but I want you to know that I personally value you and your blog, and I love your wit. I haven't been posting regularly either, but I think I will start writing and see where I go. Come along with me!

  41. Sister,
Please remember I don't have the gift of writing like you, Dad and Jake have... :) This is my first time bloggin!!
You mention in your blog that you don't have that many friends. Well, it sounds to me like you have a WHOLE LOT of friends who care for you and are concerned when they don't hear from you. They sound like great people.

I remember you saying a blogging pal lives in Destin -- next time you come to the house -- you need to visit. Don't worry about me -- I'm just extremely thankful for the visit and we can always stay up at night talking. (I know that is hard to believe since I can fall asleep mid sentence. ha I'll just drink alot of coffee.)
Also, you do have friends -- don't ever think you don't. When I read the above responses, I was like "WOW"!!! You are fun, funny, exciting, witty, vibrant, smart on politics and have a opinion on just about anything and everything. That is your charm.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I think you are blessed with alot of people who obviously miss you when you are abscent (spelling?). (This why I would never be a good blogger, because I can't spell ... ha.)
    Love you dearly,
    Sherri
