See the way the wind blows here at our house? We had some fun weather in Texas last week. Nice warm temperatures, accompanied by winds strong enough to blow power lines down (as well as the garden clock we keep out back). Due to the dry conditions, some of those downed power lines caused a fire or two to kick up around Ft. Worth. Which begs the question...Exactly why do we not bury our power lines these days? Just seems like it'd be better all around.
Here's our resin leprechaun hat, ready to be filled with candy and set out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Check out my $6 painting I got at Kirkland's. Not exactly fine art, but I love it anyway. I can't say that I'm crazy about the frame. I think I'll paint it one of these days. Maybe black. Or maybe not. I've got it hanging in the living room right now. I figure I'll look at it for awhile and then decide what color and finish to go with.
My little Jim Shore figurine. "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide". (Something every parent should tell their children.)
This picture is for Scott and Jackie. Don't know if they've ever seen them before, but this is what a Blue Bonnet looks like when it starts to come up. Not being a native of Texas, I didn't know what this was when I first saw it a couple of years ago. I thought the leaves were kind of pretty, though, so I didn't pull it up. Then our neighbor, "B", came over and, as we were discussing flower beds and I pointed it out to him, he informed me that we had ourselves a Blue Bonnet plant. Cool, huh? Didn't even plant that first one, it just came up wild. Later on, we found some at Lowe's being sold as annuals and bought a six pack for the front of the house. Last year, those Blue Bonnets took off. Beautiful blooms that just kept going and going. It was awesome. I hope they do as well this year. I harvested some of the seeds and planted them out back a few months ago. I noticed this weekend that some of them were starting to come up. "B" and his wife are planning to plant a bunch of them in their backyard, along the fence line. It should be beyond gorgeous when they bloom. I'll probably be hospitalized shortly afterwards, though. I figure I'll probably fall off the fence while trying to balance long enough to take a few pictures. Maybe I'll just ask "B" to take them for me...yeah, that'd probably work out better, for me and the camera.

Hey Girl! What's up? You're not visiting much anymore and you're not posting as often. I just want you to know that I've noticed. I was glad to see a post today though.
ReplyDeleteHugs sweet friend!
Kat
I'm with Kat. I was just about to hound you to death with e-mails to make sure you are around. LOL I really like that garden clock, I bet it looks good when it's not blown down. :-) Don't be gone too long because we all miss you.
ReplyDeleteHey Kari!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you.
Kari, you can blog about tomato soup cans and that'll be just great. I have never seen a bluebelle or a blue bonnet for real, but it Bluebelle is the nickname I've given a dear friend who just so happens to live in Austin, Texas. Wonder if they'd grow in my corner of the world...
ReplyDeleteYour garden clock is very nice and a wonderful feature for your outdoor space. Too bad the winds blew it over. Those boys of yours can set it right I hope! (I agree about electrical wires...so much more attractive landscape when they're underground, too.)
Kari, so glad to see you here today. Just be you sweetie that is why we all come back!
ReplyDeleteToo dang funny...hubbin and I just had that SAME conversation about electrical lines the other day...I also hate the way the electric company comes in and TRIMS the booger out of some normally gorgegous trees...they just really prune them till they almost split in two...I can NOT understand WHY they don't (other than NOW it would be too expensive and you know who would have to pay for it)bury the lines!
ReplyDeleteOh...and I have been noticing you cutting back on your blogging...didn't want to hound you too much...b/c I haven't been great about it either...but you are VERY missed when you're away!
We had the same winds...it blew things all over my back porch...chairs...a rustic table...a very large church birdhouse...and a couple of pots...YES...pots...w/dirt in them...now that was some strong TEXAS winds. Either that or we have gremlins moving things around...which in could be the case around here!!
Blessings...
Teresa
P.S. check out my site for a free give-a-way at Dawn's from thefeatherednest...you'll love it!!
Kari
ReplyDeleteGood the hear from you Hope you are OK. Those blue bonnets sound lovely and isn't it great to know that spring will soon be hear and we can all get into and enjoy outdoors again.
You know I was wondering where you have been. I love the little leprechaun hat, that's too cute. I bet Jake loves it, huh? Well, I tried to load the video on my blog but it seems even the condensed version isn't working, but you should be getting your copy in the mail soon. I hope you are having a good weekend. Talk to you soon. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see you back up and running I could dance a jig...okay, maybe not a jig but a little waltz step...that was some windstorm you were having! I hope it didn't break your garden clock, it's so pretty! Don't stay away so long, now...loved this post, by the way!
ReplyDeletelove ya
Aunt Sandi
Oh, and by the way, wanted to say I love that painting...I like the frame, too...and of course have always loved Jimminy....and you do candy at St. Paddy's day? Huh? Not beer?...what is Texas doing to you...
ReplyDeletelove again,
Aunt Sandi, the scatterbrain of the Carolinas
Yikes!! Sorry about the clock..hope it survived. Love the St Patty's Day hat, but would probably love the candy even more. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd..Jiminy..you know how I feel about Disney...so all in all, I'm so glad you posted today..
Cassie
I like your blog about stuff. Left something for you at my blog : ).
ReplyDeleteThat frame is cool and seeing something green coming out of the ground gives me hope for spring.
No green beer in your hat?? I am with the others...no visiting means I miss Kari BIG time. But I still love ya.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love a good Texas bluebonnet...we had them all around our base housing when we lived in Corpus Christi. It seems like forever ago...: ) I was a baby then!! Okay, so I was 25 but compared to now, I WAS a baby!
Have a sweet weekend dear friend...
Love,Sue
It's good to hear from you Kari. One of these days I'll write about the big wind storm I lived through in Texas.
ReplyDeleteI love those Blue Bonnets and the Paint Brushes ain't too shabby either. You do know don't you that I am half Texan!? My Daddy was a native of the great state of Texas.
Enjoyed seeing you post!
Pat
Hi, Kari! Haven't been by to see you in awhile. Love your pic from Kirklands. I see you are in a blog slump. I was afraid I'd run out of things to blog about too, but so far it hasn't happened. My mind goes ninety MPH all the time!
ReplyDeletexo,
Rhoda
PS Hope those blue bonnets take off for ya!
I'm so glad to see that you finally posted. I've been wondering where you've been, how you are doing and if everything was ok. You're gonna have to tell us what's up. We all love ya! I'd read whatever you wrote about, even if the topic was about dirt. LOL
ReplyDeleteI agree about the power lines. Why on earth don't the put those crazy things in the ground, I just don't get it.
I had to go chase down my trashcans during that wind storm. I was scared to death from it. I had to chase down a few other things as well. I don't like this crazy weather we've had lately. With me being down in the Houton/Beaumont area, it has me worried as to what our summer/fall hurricane season is going to be like. EEEKKK!! Can I come stay with you the next time I have to evacuate? I'll bring my scrappin' and card making stuff. hehe ;)
You take care! I've missed your posts.
***HUGS***
There's an award waiting for you on my blog - come over to claim it!
ReplyDeleteHi I am not great but thought I would say hi
ReplyDeleteWell well well. Look what the cat dragged in. Do you know it has been 7 days since your last post, missy? And here I am worried to death about you, pacing and walking the floor. Just what do you have to say for yourself and don't blame it on your friends....OOPS sorry, just practicing for raising teenagers. What do you think? Heavy enough on the guilt? Add tears or scream? Any sarcastic phrases I should insert?
ReplyDeleteSeriously though Kari. Mundane is fine, life has the remarkable and then there is just comfort. I hope you have a great weekend and I'm glad to know you haven't given up on us completely. If you need a friend, who is basically a complete stanger, to bounce the ideas in your head off of, email me. See ya! Jennifer
Man, the weather has been horrid everywhere hasn't it? (Well, except for when I was in Florida! LOL! It was DIVINE!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Kirkland's! I was so bummed when they closed ours! They always had really cool stuff! That is where we bought our huge clock and the mirror above our fireplace.
I am SO ready to see some pretty flowers coming up! I wish I had planted some irises last year. Every year I say that I am going to and I always forget.
Don't you love when a plant that is supposed to me an "annual" keeps coming back every year?
Hey Kari, we come all the back from Vacation to visit your Blog and .....what's happened hon? If you have the blogging blues we understand completely, did someone hurt you, let us know where they live ! lol Cheer up hon, the sun will soon be shining, and just one look at Jimminy Cricket and you can't help but smile! I have been wondering where you have been. Hope all is well Tricia
ReplyDeleteSo, like...where are you???
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why power lines weren't buried also until some little critter chewed up an underground line once.
ReplyDeleteHey Kari- Glad to see you around :o) I have been in a slump lately myself...I think it is the cold and dreary winter we have been having that seems to be lasting forever?!?! Where is spring...we need spring!!!LOL...Happy Valentine's Day!!!!
ReplyDelete~Des

ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm ready to start packing to come to Texas and find out what's going on with you!! Are you okay?
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day sweet friend!
Hugs!
Kat
Kari, I can say from experience that life has major ups and downs. Talking (writing) about them helps them pass more quickly. It does not depress me to hear about others issues, because I might be able to offer some insightful words! I know you have to make this decision for yourself, but I want you to know that I personally value you and your blog, and I love your wit. I haven't been posting regularly either, but I think I will start writing and see where I go. Come along with me!
ReplyDeleteDear Kari, I'm missing you!
ReplyDeletePat
Hope things will be looking up for you soon! Thank you for updating us!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're able to take this time for yourself and come back to blogging feeling better! We would miss you if you just quit all together! But I can certainly understand the feeling of not wanting to blog during certain periods of our lives; hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying for you while you are on bloggyvacation. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help raise your spirits and change your attitude. May the Force be with you!
ReplyDeleteKari...thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way...miss you bunches!
ReplyDeleteCassie
Just dropping by to say that Blogdom is NOT the same without you. Hope that you are well and feeling "fit" again. (I've always thought that you are fit...more than fit...are you too hard on yourself?)
ReplyDeleteMissing you...
Missing you. I get what you are saying though. Still missing you.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you sweetie. Hope you find your way out and back. {{HUGS}}
ReplyDeleteWe miss you Kari. Hope things are looking up for you.
ReplyDeleteMissing you Kari!
ReplyDeleteHey if you get a chance read my post today!

Love & Huge Hugs!!
Miss you!
ReplyDeleteSister,
ReplyDeletePlease remember I don't have the gift of writing like you, Dad and Jake have... :) This is my first time bloggin!!
You mention in your blog that you don't have that many friends. Well, it sounds to me like you have a WHOLE LOT of friends who care for you and are concerned when they don't hear from you. They sound like great people.
I remember you saying a blogging pal lives in Destin -- next time you come to the house -- you need to visit. Don't worry about me -- I'm just extremely thankful for the visit and we can always stay up at night talking. (I know that is hard to believe since I can fall asleep mid sentence. ha I'll just drink alot of coffee.)
Also, you do have friends -- don't ever think you don't. When I read the above responses, I was like "WOW"!!! You are fun, funny, exciting, witty, vibrant, smart on politics and have a opinion on just about anything and everything. That is your charm.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I think you are blessed with alot of people who obviously miss you when you are abscent (spelling?). (This why I would never be a good blogger, because I can't spell ... ha.)
Love you dearly,
Sherri
