S'more Fun Than I Could Have Imagined

One of the many fun traditions that I didn't do with my children 'lo these many years is the making of S'mores. Yeah, I know...what can I say? We never made them when I was a kid so it wasn't something I felt driven to do with my kids. Until recently, that is. I bought one of those pre-packaged kits at Wal-Mart for S'mores making. Kaleb and Jacob thought it was pretty cool, although I'm still not clear on the thrill of S'mores making in a microwave. But, given the lack of campfire in our backyard, a microwave was, by default, the method of choice. (Okay, so I guess that means it wasn't really a choice, so much as an "only option" but let's not split hairs, okay?) Here's Kaleb making a goofy face. (I'm sure it was the thrill of the S'more that caused this look.)
And here's Jacob, also looking a little bit dorky. Don't know if I can blame the S'mores for that, too, or if maybe it was the milk causing his look of smiling bewilderment. (Hmmm...a case of lactose intolerance developing perhaps??? Okay, maybe not. Odds are good he's just a dork.)
Here's Kaleb again....almost looks like he thought the S'more was attacking his fingertips, huh?
And lastly, here's Jacob again. Caught in the act, drinking from the jug of milk almost like he had good sense. (Oh sure...Milk does a body good, but I don't think it helps with manners!)Now that I've checked S'mores off the list, what fun tradition should we try next? Wonder if I could talk the boys into a little fun, festive caroling?? lol

  2. Yesterday Penny & I had to go to the electric supply place, her husband sent us with a list--the guy at the counter looked at it and said "why do you want smores?". Turns out we needed "5 more" of something--ha ha ha. That's about the only "smores" I've had in a while.

And, I made, MADE, my family, including sis, husband, niece, nephew, family friend, and kids, go caroling a couple of years back. It was freeze a__ cold. We went to one home where they asked us in for hot cocoa, and family friend said "no she won't let us--she's making us carol to a certain number, and our voices are going fast" another ha ha ha

Be careful starting those traditions!!! As with me, you may be the only one getting any joy from them, but then, it IS about us, right?????

  3. Never done s'mores in the microwave. Always used a campfire. I will say, I think they changed the graham cracker recipe. We had some s'mores this summer. We have a fireplace in our courtyard. They just didn't taste as good as I remember them. But then again, neither do twinkies or hostess cupcakes :-)

  5. We want to send our daughter out caroling with her friends. Maybe we could arrange something. According to my wife, this is best done with very little practice.

  6. Making s'mores in the microwave is fun to watch because the marshmellows swell up sooooo big! I can still remember my entire troop of Girl Scouts gathered around oooing and ahhhing and wondering how long until they exploded!

Um...caroling, making a gingerbread house? That would be interesting with those guys!

  8. OK - this is going to date me... but I remember when microwaves first came out - the salesman sold my dad one simply because he made smores in them during the demonstration.

  9. We haven't done s'mores in the microwave, but will keep that in mind. I'll get some chocolate today! I have the other things left over from our friends visit last month, when we made s'mores, on the back porch. Of course there isn't any chocolate left over from that batch of s'mores!

Thanks so much for your card! Gotta love those Christmas cards!

  10. You know I can't honestly say why we have never done S'mores. Well other than we don't have a campfire in our back yard either. We all love them. Chocolate, good. Marshmallows, good. Graham crackers, good. Well isn't this just lovely, this little craving gaining speed on me.

    Love,
    Julie

  14. Would you believe I've never had S'mores?? I knowwwww, I'm so deprived!!! The boys seemed to be enjoying them anyway! lol You know, when I saw that last picture of Jacob drinking the milk from the jug it brought back a memory....my two older brothers were really bad at doing that (much to my mother's dismay) and this one time I decided I was going to try it too. Well, here I take a great big swig of it only to just about throw up...it was BUTTERMILK mom had put in there! lol xox

  15. I could NOT make s'mores in the microwave because I have to have my marshmallows crispy critterized. I love the color of your kitchen. I think we might have the same stove, too except in my stupidity I got a white top.

    Happy Saturday!

  16. Kari, I think you may have just restored my faith in the USPS! Thanks for letting me know and thank you for the compliment as well. Guess it's all those years of teaching cursive. LOL!

Your sons are good sports allowing you to make wise acre comments and to let us all have a chance to see boys behaving like boys in the kitchen.

I've never heard of microwave s'mores so thank you for expanding my universe! :)
