Randey's out of town for a few days. This morning I was bored silly so I decided to entertain myself with some shopping. I don't much regret the shopping, but I sure wish I'd taken a taxi. I came out of JC Penney to find that my brand new car, the one I've only made two whole payments on, had been smucked. Here's what greeted me:
I had pulled all the way through a parking spot so I wouldn't have to back up when I left and it looks like someone tried to park next to me and hit my car instead. I don't know who hit my car because the person left without leaving so much as a note. And since we don't have Uninsured Motorist coverage (and why should we? Insurance is MANDATORY in this state, therefore everyone should
have it!) that person's annoying lack of parking skills and
severe lack of anything even
resembling character and/or integrity will cost us $5oo in deductibles just to have our car fixed. You know the really, really sucky thing about all this? Just
32 days ago, Randey was in a hit and run accident while driving home from work. They caught the guy who hit him (luckily, there was an off duty police officer who witnessed the wreck and chased the guy down when he fled the scene). But, while that young man was caught and arrested for the crime of fleeing an accident, the fact remains that he,
too, had no insurance. So that wreck
also cost us $500. In fact, Randey's car is in the shop right this minute, being fixed while Randey's out of town. So, thanks to 2 individuals who have chosen to break the law by having no insurance and by leaving the scene of accidents, we're out $1,000 in very short order. Yeah. I am
seriously bummed right now.

oh my gosh! how can that person SLEEP at night? that sucks so bad! I'm soooo sorry that happened! He'll be introduced to my good friend KARMA soon enough and get whats coming to him....or (her!)

ReplyDeleteContact your insurance agent and get Uninsured Motorist coverage on your cars. It's worth the peace of mind.
Kari, I'm so sorry. How do some people sleep at night? I wonder if the parking area you were at has a camera? Most of them in my neck of the woods have several for security purposes. Might be worth looking in to.

Any cameras on the parking lot? Sometimes it can be tracked.
ReplyDeleteSuch a weasel! Which reminds me to be a good Samaritan if I ever see this kind of thing happen...take down the license plate and the description...surreptitiously of course.
Even though you still had to pay for Randey's car, at least you had the satisfaction of knowing that he was caught. What happens after that? A slap on the wrist? They should be required to pay restitution.
There are so many driving around with no insurance around here that we can't afford not to have uninsured AND under insured motorist coverage on our vehicles. My pick-up is 9 years old so I dropped everything except liability and medical on it about 3 months ago, but I had to think hard before I did it.
ReplyDeleteIf you were in a parking lot, there are surveilence cameras that probably caught the bastidge on film, so see if your insurance company can't request that information...that's why they have lawyers...to protect you...

Sandi is right. I'd give it a try anyway. Even though the "person" most likely has no insurance, that's why he or she left, but at least you might be able to make them feel uncomfortable. Oh,...I don't think anything would make them feel any sense of guilt, though!

Man what a bummer.Ohio has a manditory insurance law that has no teeth. you are asked if you have insurance,but donot ask for proofe.even if they did ask there are documents that are altered proving that someone has insurance but it all reality they do not.Dead beats like that just frosts me.

And the hit to your car was just a little ooops I opened my car door and dinged this car, that was a serious hit! They couldn't have NOT known when they did! I'm sorry this happened :(
ReplyDeleteBeen through this myself and no matter what anyone tries to tell you, it just plain sucks! So sorry you gotta deal with yours..& Randey's...but, better than seeing them do it and then they try to drive away and you chase them and then they get out and threaten you and you yell at them and then they smack you around and then...oh sorry...one too many diet cokes today, I guess.. :)

ReplyDeleteThat's terrible! Those things make me sick to my stomach. We had the same thing happen to us with a brand new Grand Caravan. We took the kids Christmas shopping in a mall, and came out only an hour or so later to a dented up rear end.
